Scarlett Bumgarner

January 5, 2023 Scarlett went in for surgery to have her wisdom teeth removed in our small town of Panama City, FL. During surgery, she faced complications and blood loss resulting in an emergency visit to the ER. There wasn’t much the hospital could do for her in Panama City since she was still losing blood and they weren’t sure what caused the issue, so she was taken by helicopter to a children’s hospital 2 1/2 hours away. We left the girls with our friends and Anthony, and I drove to the children’s hospital. Little did we know that would be our home away from home for the next few weeks.
After countless tests and a rollercoaster of emotions, we received a diagnosis that shook our world: leukemia. A word heavy with weight. I am a believer and in the midst of this darkness, we found silver linings all around us. If it wasn’t for the oral surgery, we would have never known cancer was lurking in her body. We are hopeful that her 2-year chemo maintenance plan will be swift, and we can put this behind us.
Scarlett’s journey has been one of courage, resilience, and unwavering faith. The outpouring of love, support, and kind gestures we’ve received fills us with gratitude.
Despite the challenges, Scarlett and her sisters continue to radiate joy and hope. Back in June 2023, Scarlett shaved her head for the first time, a decision that embodies her fierce and fiery spirit. Going out in public with her new look took time, but as you can see, she’s rockin’ it!
This is us—standing strong, smiling through adversity, and embracing each new day with hope.
