Maverick Nations
Our journey started on March 10, 2025 when I took Maverick to urgent care for a fever he had on and off for about 2 weeks and tugging at his ear.
About a month before taking him to a CHOA urgent care, I noticed him becoming off balance and falling a lot, not being able to stand up properly after falling or when he did he would lay there and look at you, “like umm help me”. Typical toddler right.
Then I started noticing the bruises again in my mind typical toddler.
After a week or so of what I thought at the time was a rash that popped up took him in and was told it was viral and would go away.
Had a follow up appointment with ent as he does have tubes thinking there could be fluid, all was clear.
My mom gut kicked in as more and more bruises started popping up and his stumbling/falling got worse, he would grow pale at night, then came on the tiredness. Not really think much of it other than he has a cold as the weather her has been wacky.
On 3/10/25 his temp got to 102 and he was tugging at his ear, my thought ear infection. After picking up my 2 older girls from school we stopped at urgent care.
That’s where the doctor at CHOA urgent care first sent my mind into a scramble, when I heard the words you need to take him to Arthur Blank Memorial, I am scared this is leukemia. Later that night my worst fear as a mother was confirmed. Maverick was diagnosed with High Risk B-ALL, due to his white blood cell count when he first went into the emergency room and his first spinal tap where blast cells were found.
