Lukas Volez

Lukas is a 5-year-old who just started kindergarten. Lukas loves to swim, ride his bike, play outside, ride his scooter, watch his ipad, play with trains, play with hot wheels, sing and dance and he loves to listen to music, and playing with his big brother Jakob. He is the most remarkable little boy that you will ever come across. He will never let on that he doesn’t feel good or that something is wrong. He will power through anything. He is tough, he is brave, he is strong. He has always been a fighter. He taught all of us the meaning of perseverance, overcoming challenges, and being a happy person. He is the most amazing person that I have ever met. Lukas is extraordinary. His smile is contagious. He has never met anyone he doesn’t like and loves an audience to watch him do silly things. He gives the greatest monster hugs he can and then cuddles into you like a little puppy. He loves fiercely. Lukas has a huge heart. Loves spending time with his family (aunts/uncles/cousins/grandparents). He is wise beyond his years. He’s an old soul. He’s only 5 years old but has LOTS to say. He loves to learn all about flags, landmarks, and states/countries and wants to travel the world all the time. He loves adventures to new places to see the things he reads in books and on his ipad.

In March 2019, we found pin-dot red marks on his neck and stomach. Doctors immediately did blood work and we found out that he had acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Lukas was 21 months old when he was diagnosed. What was supposed to be a life of fun and exploring as a toddler turned into a fight for his life. He had to put his childhood on hold to engage into a war that he didn’t ask to join! No child should have to go through what Lukas went through during his 3.5 years of treatment.

He has endured:

  • 1182 Doses of chemo

  • 100 Port access

  • 24 Spinal

  • 35 Hospital stays

  • 78 IV chemos

Looking at Lukas, you would never know that he is battling a beast like cancer. He is a champion — a warrior! Lukas wants to be a train conductor when he grows up.
